Is there a law out there somewhere that I've overlooked? You know, the one that says that the perfect time for your child to get sick is when you are all on vacation? Preferably, two states away?
My daughter, fiancé, and grandson are visiting family in Missouri and will be bringing Haden home when they return. They took my grandson to the ER yesterday morning because the poor little guy spent most of the night puking. The doctor told them it is most likely a virus and, as is the norm nowadays, babies don’t get any medications, just watch him.
Tristan spent all day yesterday turning his nose up at food, puking and sleeping. They thought he was feeling a little better towards evening, and he slept all night last night. Their plan was to start home this evening but as they were packing the car this morning the rain changed to sleet and they decided to go ahead and leave right then.
They’ve been on the road for nearly eleven hours now, the roads were clear through St. Louis and even through Springfield, IL but now they’re about 60 miles south of Rockford and the roads are bad. They are getting into the snow that has been falling on us all day. I wish they would pull over for the night so they don’t end up in a ditch but, well you know kids. Never mind that I told them about the two cars we saw in the ditch earlier (and Khris just got home from work and he saw a couple of cars in the ditch now). They want to get home tonight with their sick baby; I imagine he’ll be seeing his regular doctor tomorrow.
And, to top it all off, somewhere around St Louis, Haden started puking. So picture this, a little red Ford Focus sliding down up (they are coming north) the Interstate and darting over occasionally to allow a kid to puke. Too bad the baby and the teen can’t time it to happen during one pullover. Then, additional stops are needed to let the little dog poo. I don’t think I’ll want to ride in their car anytime soon.
Sounds like our Hatch. He picks the day before his daddy leaves for 6
weeks with no contact allowed (basic training) to be sick, thrown in the
hospital and freak out his mom, who had already enough to deal with daddy
leave. Yes, it's Murphy's law. Hey, if it don't kill ya, it makes you
stronger, right. Hatch is doing well, but banned from daycare for at least
a week.
That is terrible and it seems familiar. When our C was 6, she was ill of
and on for a month. We went to an out door event, she couldn't walk (got
too cold and legs didn't work). By the time we drove the hour (passing
through) to the city where the Dr. was, on a holiday Monday, she was
better. The next weekend, we were on a trip, got hit in a vehicle
accident, then went on to the next city and had a busy time. By Sat night
she had a scary fever and started puking and couldn't keep anything down.
She slept all day Monday, then I noticed the rash and realized she went
septic. We took her in and she stayed over night on IV. Couldn't leave
until she peed. IV from 8 pm, peed 11 am. We just about killed the kid in
waiting for her to rest it off. She apparently had a throat infection,
yet never once complained about a sore throat; who knew. She is fine now,
but we have spent years having her on vitamins so she doesn't go back to
listless when she hasn't rested well enough. I hope you kids and grandkids
will be fine and will keep them in my prayers along with Hatch.
ohhhhh yuckies!!!! nothing worse than sick babies on vacation.
Yeah, that doesn't sound like a lot of fun. I think I would stay out of
their car for a while too.
I was going to make a snide remark about my own laws (Pamela's law: The
paper is always strongest at the perforation)
but... I'm feeling very sorry for everyone who is sick and traveling.
Nothing worse than that.
I don't want to be in their shoes either ;)
Poor them!
Oh Lisa! I feel so bad for the kids...all of them!! What an awful trip.
Hope everyone makes it home safely and that they are soon back to feeling
better.
Oh my goodness! I hope they are feeling better soon.
The perfect Valentine's gift just fell into your lap - car detailing! So
sorry the babies are sick. Hope everyone arrives safely.
That sounds like a miserable car trip. Poor things. Hope they arrived
home safe and sound and that there is no more puking going on.
ooh. sorry about that. but glad for you to be a grandma? wow. 40 is young
young!
