Dennis and I were able to make it to the Milwaukee Public Museum to tour the limited exhibit, Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS: The Original Exhibition of Real Human Bodies. We were not able to take cameras inside so you’ll have watch the video at the previous link, or enjoy the few photos I have here, or pop on over to one of the exhibits.
The bodies are real human bodies, plasticized. You can pick up a donation card while you’re there if you want to donate your body. I think it’s kinda creepy but I found it very educational. It was more interesting because I knew they were real bodies, people who once walked around like you and I.
We’re hoping to go to Union Station in Kansas City, to see the Bodies Revealed when we go to Missouri in May.
I'm not sure how I feel about these, but the do hold a certain
fascination!
My oldest and I went to see the same type of exhibit a couple years ago. I
thought I'd be grossed out, but I wasn't...not at all. It was fascinating,
actually. We spent alot fo time studying all the bodies and various cross
sections, etc. The only part that was disturbing to me, were the babies
they had displayed. They were in large bottles and showed various stages
of development as well as some that were horribly deformed. Yes, it is
educational and all, but it was just sad. Especially when I had a 2 year
old at home...
We haven't been to one of these exhibits. There's been a lot of
controversy regarding where and how the original bodies were obtained.
Just saw this on Daily Planet and he was working on an elephant...
It was just in the paper here not too long ago that the show is coming here
to Edmonton. I jumped on the chance to get tickets and we'll be going in
August.
That's somewhat gross. I saw a PBS show once called Regency House Party and
apparently more than a hundred years ago rich people in England would pay
to have scientists bring embalmed bodies to the mansion for viewing. They
were cut up into layers just like this exhibit (ie muscle layer, fat
layer).
That is pretty creepy but I imagine it would be terribly interesting.
We saw a similar thing in Raleigh last year. It was really fascinating.
I've seen this on Television - and it really is macabre
(and of course makes me want to go see it. ewww)
I refuse to go see this exhibit. I have the one in NYC and apparently
theres investigations going on that these people were prisoners in another
country and never even gave their consent to have their bodies exhibited,
nor do their families have any idea about it. Not to say that the exhibit
you saw is one place that does that because I have no idea, and I'm sure
that there are places that do it but are being deceived about where the
bodies come from, but I would rather not chance it and support something
that could possibly be involved in that sort of thing.
Is St. Patrick's Day today? I hope the bank's not closed. As someone who
worked at a bank I know they take off every chance they can get. They're
worse than postal workers.
SWEET!! Feel free to email me more in depth what thoughts you have after
seeing this. If you have any, don't feel obligated...just so you know I'd
love to hear more, if there is more...
Up to this day I can't make up my mind if I think that whole thing is
creepy or good.
I wouldn't pass the cards if I got the chance to go though :)
