Happy Birthday Old Man

posted Wednesday, 22 August 2007
husband grave

I thought it sad when I saw the state of this stone. So many old stones have the Tree of Life on the them. Maybe this stone has just been replaced by a newer nicer stone, but this grave marker was in the back corner of a cemetery.

My husband turns 40 today, yep the Big 4-0. We really are getting old fast. I turned 40 a few months ago and he likes to give me crap about how old I am but for a few months here we’re the same age (he says I’m still older).

He only has a few white hairs mixed in his black. Which is absolutely amazing after all we’ve been through in the last few years. I had no idea when I met him what a change he would bring to my life. He is a wonderful man!

We’ve known each other for almost 6 years and moved from Missouri to Texas to Wisconsin toting 5 of our 6 children along (the 6th one is on her way up here soon). He welcomed my four children into his life like they were his own and has been a support to them in ways they’ve never had. If it doesn’t mean much to you that four kids (boys 9, 11, 13 and a girl 15) didn’t scare him off how about this. He bought a new PT Cruiser not long after we met and my middle son, Gage, had to have a tonsillectomy. Dennis drove us home from the hospital and Gage puked blood all over the new vehicle - it didn’t even have 40 miles on it yet.

Not enough? We had been dating about 9 months when I had to have surgery on my lung, he sat with me in the hospital every minute that he wasn’t working or taking care of the 6 aforementioned children. I had surgery 3 months later, over New Year’s and again he was there.

He took on a lot when he fell in love with me but boy am I glad he did. He’s been my rock the last couple of years while I’ve dealt with cancer and chemo and I’m so glad that he’s stayed and not just walked away. So many times walking away would have been the easiest thing to do. I’m so happy that he enjoys a challenge.

What a great guy you married! Not many men would take on all that "baggage" ( I hate that word!). I had a hard time dating with just one son! Happy Birthday to him!!
