The Bear Team over at Uncaringbear are our hosts this week. They want to know:
Share with us a little white lie that you may, or may not, have gotten away with. Perhaps it's something more sinister than a little white lie - maybe even a deep dark secret that you've kept buried for years! All the better! Now's your chance to get it off your chest and confess: "Yes, I did eat that last slice of cheese cake", "No, I wasn't washing my hair that Saturday", "Those pants do make you look fat"!
I have struggled with a good lie to share. I would have settled for a deep dark secret but damn my blabbermouth, I have none. I wonder if I begin to believe my lies myself, since I couldn’t come up with a great one to share. So, I’ll go with what my children would say are my lies. I don’t intend them to be, but that’s the kids’ interpretation.
“in a minute” - My minutes must last hours, my kids know they don’t last 60 seconds.
“after a while” or “soon” - Which means a few hours to a few days.
“maybe” - Well maybe, means “no” 90% of the time.
“try” - Could happen but most likely won’t.
“I think I will” - If I remember.
Luckily they also know that when I say “we are going”, “I am going to” , “I will”, “Yes, I’ll do that”, or “No, I won’t forget” the words are truth. . . well 99% of the time.
Update: I came up with a lie I remember telling. Yea for me! "Yes, this is my natural hair color."
So now, you know all you need to about my little lies and it's time for you to go to the list of participants in search of something more sinister. Be sure to come back tomorrow though as I'll be hosting the next Fun Monday. Anyone (yes you) is welcome to join in the fun, so come on back even if you've never participated before. We'd love to have you, of course after today, you may not want to be associated with us.
You came up with some great 'lies' and I'm sure a lot of parents can
relate....I know I can. Great Fun Monday!
I guess I tell those same little lies...although if you teach them that a
minute is an hour is it really a little lie?
Oh yes, those lies "in a minute" and "we'll see." I had forgotten or
overlooked those kind of lies.
You sound like a typical mum to me.If I promise I make sure to remember but
after that it's pot luck.
Oh yes, I remember both my kids tellin' me that my "maybe" means "no"!!
And I recall our son, when much younger --he's now in his mid 30's
---actaully TIMING my "in a minute" repsonse!! You got those down and
posted for this week's theme, and it really holds true. So, I'd say your
little 'white lies' confessions are good enough to "clear the air" !!
Oooh, I never thought about 'in a minute' or 'maybe' - which often do mean
'no!' here!
i forgot about all those little white lies - the ice cream man only plays
music when he has sold out - yeah that was one of mine!
FUN!
Sounds like the same white lies told by all moms! ;)
Yeah - that sounds just like I talk to my kid. That "maybe" means "I don't
have the energy right now to explain why the answer is going to be 'no,'
and so I'm getting by right now." Then it's gets worse, b/c I get
pestered.
My Fun Monday was kind of lame, but hopefully I'll get more inspired with
yours next week. Please add me to the list!
i don't think those are really lies to the kids ehhh? we mean them when we
say them right LOL
My kids know that "Maybe" or "We'll see" more than likely means "NO!"
Ha! I don't even know what my real hair color is!!
oh shoot - I use those phrases all the time....In a minute really means
"whenever I get finished reading this blog or the next 5".
My truthful answer to "what is your real hair colour?" is "I haven't a
clue". I always say it, too - no little white lies for that one!
what i say most often to my kids is "we'll see". one daughter thinks that
means "no", but the other thinks it means "yes" - so either way, i'm in
trouble!
Those are lies? I just thought they were standard responses to our kids.
Oops!
I just lied. Sent you an Email and said I couldn't get in. And suddenly I
can.
What a lovely photo! Your post was funny and I certainly identify with
those lies. Maybe I need to change my blog post!! (grin!)
OMG I say all those and they end up meaning exactly the same as yours
do!!!! How funny!!! I really like next Fun Monday's topic!! Darn it if all
my REALLY OLD diaries are at my Mom's and its a 6hr drive and she wouldn't
know where to begin to find them for me!! I just thought It'd be cool to
see like the 6yr old one!! oh well AND I need to comment on your blog more
often so I can brush up on my math!!! I am using fingers!!!
Yep! I remember those to! I say it everyday :D:D
