Dennis and I have been contemplating buying the Canon 50mm f/1.2L lens, but we hadn’t been able to decide if we would be just as happy with the 50mm f/1.8. I don’t want to get lost in the lenses here but there’s a huge price difference in the two lenses.
In our search we found a place where we can rent lenses and other camera stuff, BorrowLenses.com. This would have been even more convenient if we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, where we could have gone in and picked it up ourselves. Since we don’t (and while it looks like they have other stores in California, there‘s not one in Chicago, hint-hint), we put in our order and got to try the lens for a week. With the cost of some of the lenses we think we want, I imagine we will be renting from them again in the future so I put a link in my sidebar so I don’t lose them. My memory you know.
We’re really excited about this because we can also rent another camera body if we need to. Maybe even take a Nikon out for a spin, shhh, don‘t tell Canon. I think their prices are really reasonable and can‘t wait to try something else out. Just thought you might want to borrow a lens or sample a digital SLR. The experience we had with them was easy as pie. I placed my order on Thursday and was promised the lens would be delivered on Monday and it was. The lens was packed so well that I think a tank couldn’t have hurt it. The shipping time didn’t count in my week, I just had to ship it back yesterday and I did, but it was hard to pry it out of Dennis’s hands.
This is a great idea, borrowing a lense! They should start a business in
Belgium as well, I think! Up until now, we can only borrow expensive
handbags over here!
OMG! This is wonderful information, being new to this photography thing, I
am never sure if a lens will give me the effect, or picture, that I want.
I love the idea of renting! Thanks.
Your little mouse friend is living the life of Reilly, I have family of
mice living in my attic. They better not get wind of the charmed life your
little guy has or they might start putting demands on me!
What great info! My husband is a professional photographer and he's always
looking for a "better" lens. He buys them right and left but almost always
sends them back because that's not what he wanted LOL We'll have to give
this a try.
What a great idea. Thanks for sharing
This is a really great idea. I want a new camera. I don't need a new
camera, I desire one. This way, once I narrow the field, I could do a test
drive.
I've been having issues w/ your blog today..finally got here! Whew..and the
comment thing forgot me :-(
That's awesome! I'll definitely be checking them out. Thanks for the
info. :-)
that sounds like a good way to try out camera. the business of borrowing is
the hip thing right now! i just posted on borrowing purses!

the mouse pic is so sweet!
Sweet pictures all... very cool idea to rent and discover what you like.
Adorable baby. Cute mouse too.
What a sensible idea! I'm thinking of a macro lens so I might see if
anyone in the UK does something similar.
what a cool idea! I'll definitely be checking into this.
What a cute mousy. Borrowing equipment is a good idea. I might have to try
it.
That is a great idea. I might have to look into that.
How fun to try out different lenses. I love the photo you put with the
post. It looks like the little critter is holding tight to something, like
Dennis to a lens.
