Hey I heard a commercial on the radio for a couple of new books, when I get home do you want to run to the bookstore?
Sure.
He comes home, grabs me and we drive the 30 minutes to Barnes and Noble. I get four new paperbacks and some bookmarks. As we start to pull out of the parking lot, I say, “Thanx for the new books, honey!”
I know you like books and thought you might like some new ones.
After a few moments of silence, my brow furrowed, I quietly ask, “Are you leaving me?”
He rolls his eyes, laughingly, “No”
This may not sound like a funny exchange to you but there’s history there. When I first started dating him I was working at Home Depot, in the phone center and I read a lot of books in between phone calls. I was very scared of him leaving me and I would often joke, “Well if you leave, I still have my books.” Over the years, I have tried to release him from any obligations of sticking with me (kids, cancer. . . ) by occasionally reminding him that I would be ok, I still had my books. I may clean out closets and get rid of “treasures”, but my many heavy boxes of books have made it through every move. No matter what life throws at me, I can lose myself in another world, I still have my books.
Woo hoo! I'm first! Now I can die happy.
We're alike regarding books. When I go to the BEA (the book show) each
year, I pack books to read, until I get my hands on the free ones. Bob
reads, but different ones than I do, and not as much.
I am the same way about books....I love, love, love to read!!
And, I really get that. I'm surrounded by mine. They cheer me up while
blogging in bed.
YES!!! I totally get this!! I love being surrounded by my books and they
have made it through all of my moves.
That is so cute. I love those little things that carry on. We helped move
my sister once. She had gotten rid of 2/3 of her books. The whole front
of the truck was filled with boxes of D's books. The whole day was filled
with comments about D's books and carrying D's books. We were just glad
she got rid of most of them before the move.
I SOOOOO can relate to this!! Man, I just love my books. Lock me in a
room with my books and I'd be fine. Seriously, I'd rather read than do
most anything else! And the little bookmarks are very cute. I'm going to
have to go check out the little coffee ones! My stepgrandson calls me
JavaJeanne!
I so totally know this feeling!!! I love my books;) Some of them are my
very best friends!!!
Another book lover here. If I'm stressed or having a bad day, I grab a
book, put on some nice music with the headphones and I'm gone to another
world.
